EARSHOTS

2027 · An archival polyphonic concert

EARSHOTS proposes a fixed five-channel score for five performers, composed from Ukrainian archival song recordings and other sound. Each body-worn object would play one channel and glow with its own sound.

The score determines when each voice is heard. The choreography determines where it sounds: voices separate, gather on one body, pass from hand to hand, or continue from the floor.

An emerging project on archival Ukrainian polyphony and its spatial and bodily activation: voices separate, gather, change support and continue sounding as bodies move around them.

An earlier formal study

The digital maquettes shown here study scale, curvature and visible electronics. They belong to an earlier shoulder-mounted design. They are not photographs of a completed object; the shell and electronic arrangement are being revised.

Listening, composing, carrying

Research begins with archival Ukrainian polyphony. A group recording already holds several voices together: the five channels will be composed from this material, rather than presented as separated original voices.

No archival recording, singer, village or collaboration is confirmed. Selection, use and credits are to be agreed with archive holders, recordists and communities. No archival audio is reproduced here.

Research & development

EARSHOTS is in an early stage of artistic research. The objects, composition and choreographic score remain in development; the digital images shown here are earlier formal studies.

The first public work-in-progress showing takes place on 15 December 2026 at Extra City Kunsthal, Antwerp, within the Master in Fine Arts, Socio-Political Context, at Sint-Lucas Antwerpen. Development and intended realisation continue in 2027. This showing is not the premiere of a completed work.
